Nutritious Culinary Service
Unique to Coterie are full kitchens designed to serve each memory care neighborhood, enabling the culinary staff to customize menus to each resident’s taste and unique nutritional needs. Coterie chefs collaborate with Mayo Clinic specialists to create menus that are optimized for cognitive nutrition. Coterie also partners with CaringKind to provide caregivers with evidence-backed training to better assist residents during meals, which adds to a consistently calm dining experience.
Studies show that exercise is one of the known modifiable risk factors for dementia. Regular exercise also helps combat other Alzheimer’s disease risk factors, such as depression and obesity.
Coterie offers memory care residents at least two instructor-led exercise opportunities each day to help strengthen the body and potentially limit cognitive decline. Memory care residents may participate in activities such as:
- Strength training
- Dance and movement
- Mind-body exercises (yoga, tai chi)
- Gardening
- Nature walks
Science supports the importance of social connection, which is why Coterie develops a personalized calendar of relevant pursuits with a focus on social activity. Events leveraging the power of music are offered regularly, as music has been shown to reaffirm personal identity and social connectedness for people living with dementia. Group outings are also a regular feature of the memory care social calendar, which includes visits to local museums, parks, attractions, and restaurants.
Because looking good means feeling good, each memory care neighborhood features a private salon space for residents. A member of the Coterie team can assist in scheduling weekly appointments for haircuts and styling, as well as manicure and pedicure services.
As a leading expert on Alzheimer’s and dementia caregiving, CaringKind brings a rich array of additional resources and support to Coterie’s memory care neighborhoods. Coterie’s staff is equipped with the latest assessment tools and trained on high-quality caregiving practices, all supported by CaringKind’s expertise. This extensive training means our memory care team applies proven strategies and techniques to offer the highly personalized, best-in-class care our residents expect and deserve. CaringKind also provides support sessions to family members on topics relating to coping skills and self-care.
