“Coterie consistently seeks out resources that keep us at the leading edge of memory care,” said Joanna Mansfield, Coterie Hudson Yards’ Senior Vice President and General Manager. “Having a specialist-driven strategy that puts the latest care techniques into practice is of paramount importance.”

To this end, Coterie has joined with CaringKind, a leading nonprofit organization based in NYC with a stellar record of expertise and a shared commitment to comprehensive memory care.

Since 2015, CaringKind has been at the forefront of effective, evidence-backed care for those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. In CaringKind, Coterie has an ideal resource to provide extensive in-house tools and training modules, as well as support services for the families of memory care residents.

“Coterie residents should experience the best in not only luxury living but also in the care for every aspect of their mental and emotional well-being,” said John Moore, Chairman and CEO of Atria Senior Living. “We are passionate supporters of CaringKind and their innovative, research-based approach to dementia care. It only makes sense to bring the best of the best to our Coterie communities.”

CaringKind will enhance Coterie Memory Care in three major areas:

  • Training – CaringKind trains caregivers using “dementia foundations” modules. This approach considers the complexity of the disease for caregiving staff with emphasis on the uniqueness of dementia’s impact on each resident. The training features “micro-learning” short, real-life examples of dementia caregiving scenarios to guide caregivers on handling difficulties that may arise.
  • Family Support – CaringKind will provide coaching sessions for families of memory care residents, including methods for coping and self-care techniques.
  • Memory Care Assessment – CaringKind collaborates in a nuanced assessment of the cognitive function of current or potential residents to help determine the level of care required, gauge potential risks, and identify trends.

Coterie’s approach to memory care utilizes innovations like a circadian lighting system that helps regulate residents’ sleep and strategically designed open floor plans for safe, secure exercise opportunities. The CaringKind collaboration ensures these best-in-class features are supported by caregivers who receive best-in-class training.

“At CaringKind, we believe it’s critical for caregivers to see the whole person, not just the disease of dementia,” said Eleonora Tornatore-Mikesh, CaringKind’s President and CEO. “We are tremendously excited to bring to Coterie our ‘above and beyond’ approach of supporting residents, families, and caregivers with comprehensive, research-based memory care. It’s about caregiving that connects us to a community of people that empowers us with today's solutions.”

Coterie operates a portfolio of luxury senior living communities spanning the East and West Coasts. Please note that the services, partnerships, and amenities mentioned in this article may vary by location.
